The American food system is inseparable linked to the immigrant labor force. Low-wage immigrant workers grow, process and cook the food Americans depend on. In this lecture, learn of the forces influencing the flow of people from Mexico, Central and South American countries, the lives and hardships experienced by this largely invisible community, and the ways in which the American food system would be changed without them.

Minerva Orduño Rincón is a chef, writer and formerly an architect. Born and raised in Mexico, she lived briefly in Spain, but has resided in the United States for much of her life.

She believes cooking is as much an act of love, as it is a show of respect towards the ingredients used and the people producing them.
