Sex, Politics and Conquest: The Astonishing Story of La Malinche in the Fall of Mexico Join us for a seminar on the most famous/notorious woman in the history of Mexico. Malinche was sold into slavery as a child and as a beautiful young women was given to the Spanish as a concubine. But through her courage, intelligence and will to survive, she became Hernan Cortes’ translator and lover, and from 1519 to 1521 was a central figure in the conflict between the Spanish and Aztecs. Was Malinche the ultimate traitor to her people, or was she a role model and the mother of the Mexican people? This seminar will feature music, video, images and spirited group discussion.
