Ranching in the Borderlands Wide vistas, scenic skies, carefree lifestyle – what’s not to like about being a cowboy? This forum class will introduce you to some of the real-life challenges of arid land ranching, as well as the people and settings in which they work. We begin by visiting the Sante Fe Ranch near Nogales where we’ll meet Dean Fish, PhD, lead cowboy and instructor on ranching practices. After lunch in nearby Patagonia, we’ll head north along Sonoita Creek to the historic marker for Camp Crittenden, site of Lt. Cushing’s demise by Apaches. Following a brief stop in Sonoita, we’ll head through the Elgin vineyards to the Babacomari Ranch, a magnificent and historic property along the Babacomari River. The fee for this Forum class includes van transportation, lunch, guides and tips.
