Prior to entering the Foreign Service, Chris Teal worked with award-winning journalist Juan Williams on their biography Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary about the former US Supreme Court Justice. After tours of service in Sri Lanka, Peru, the Dominican Republic and two tours in Mexico (Guadalajara and Nogales), Mr. Teal is currently on sabbatical leave at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. There he is directing a documentary on Ebenezer D. Bassett, America's first African-American diplomat. The film, Journey of a Statesman, tells the story of this ground-breaking diplomat and examines the legacy of racial diversity today, nearly 150 years after his appointment. Join us for a look at this fascinating bit of history.
