Summary

The city of Oaxaca is one of Mexico’s most beloved destinations. This place has it all: gorgeous colonial architecture, a safe and fascinating downtown, and some of the best food on earth. Nearby we find the ruins of Monte Alban, one of the earliest cities of Mesoamerica, which served as the Zapotec socio-political and economic center for close to a thousand years. On top of all that, Oaxaca is encircled by indigenous villages specializing in eye-opening crafts, including fanciful wood carvings, black pottery, and rug weaving.

Our presenter, Porfirio Gutierrez, is a native of the Oaxaca Valley and an ideal representative of his homeland. Porfirio and his family are the focus of an extensive article in the New York Times and a video produced by the Smithsonian. Join us to hear a free presentation by Porfirio at the West Center of Green Valley Recreation (1111 S Via Arcoiris, Green Valley).
